Introduction
Welcome to the Schlicter Cup Home page. This event began in 1996 and was originally organized as the Garrison Cup by Mathew Newton. The format of the games were to match the Ryder Cup pro event between the the Americans and the World. The format of the games were as follows:
- Day 1 Front 9 – 2 man best ball
- Day 1 Back 9 – 2 man alternate shot – select off the tee
- Day 2 Front 9 – 2 man scramble
- Day 2 Back 9 – Individual match play
Saturday evening was reserved as the event dinner. Each year a small group of players volunteered to buy the group dinner. Each year new volunteer came forward to offer their services. On the Sunday there was a small lunch after the games and the tallying of the points.
In 2003 Bruce Nelson, Dave McCallister and Chester Brown took over the organizational duties of the Garrison Cup. Shortly thereafter Bruce’s law partner passed away and as a tribute to this partner, the Garrison Cup was renamed the Schlicter Cup in memory of Don Schlicter.
Today we are a one day event playing 3 games in 18 holes. The first six holes are a scramble, the middle six holes are alternate shot (select off the tee) and the final six holes are net best ball. We adjourn to the Queens Inn on Brock street afterwards and tally up the points and determine payouts for performance.
