How we Determined Handicaps

How we determined the Handicaps and team selections for the Tournament

  1. We went to the Golf Canada handicap site and captured the index of each player. We also looked at the scores entered to determine the tees that the player entered their scores.
  2. If a player does not have a Golf Canada index we assigned a handicap of 18 to the player and looked at each player to determine if the handicap fit the players’ ability with past participation in the tournament. We also determined that the player played for the Green tees.
  3. The next step was to calculate the handicap for the player for the tee that they were assigned. The formula for this is:

Tee Handicap = (Index x Slope) / 113

The tee handicap was then rounded to the nearest whole number.

  1. We then applied an adjustment for the tees played in the tournament. Since we will be playing from 3 different tees, the adjustment applied according to the course rating for the tee was as follows
Tees Yardage Slope Rating Stroke Difference
White 6200 116 69.8 0
Green 5920 114 68.2 2
Yellow 5434 112 66.7 3

The formula used to determine the Tournament handicap was as follows:

Player Index Tees Tee Handicap Fomula Tee Handicap Stroke Difference Tournament Handicap
Andy Shankland 10.5 G = (10.5 x 114) / 113 11 2 9

Tournament Handicap = Tee handicap – Stroke difference

When the Tournament handicaps were determined we sorted all the players by their Tournament handicap.  We then selected teams by top to bottom (for example Player 1 and Player 44, the Player 2 and Player 43 then Player 3 and Player 42, etc.).  Each 2 man team was assigned a number.

The Red and Blue teams were determined by the Team numbers whereby the Red Team was odd numbered and the Blue Team was even numbered
